What is a death certificate Apostille?

A death certificate is a government-issued Vital Record and generally does not require a signature from a regular notary public. Whether it can be processed directly for an Apostille depends mainly on the issuing authority, the signer's name, and their title at the bottom of the certificate.

If the death certificate bears the signature of a County Clerk or their Deputy, the California Secretary of State can issue an Apostille for that signature.
